Library Media Specialist

The CCES' media center is operated by a full-time media specialist, Mrs. Sylvia M. Pierce.  This is her twentieth year serving in this capacity.  Before joining the library media arena, she was a teacher.  Having matriculated from elementary, middle and high school in the Atlanta Public Schools makes her job more enjoyable because she is serving in the community she lived as a child.

Philosophy

The media center program is an integral part of the school's educational program.

As a part of the instructional program, the media center furnishes a wide variety of curriculum-related materials for use by teachers and students, and provides the services and programs that facilitate maximum utilization.  It is the function of the media program to serve the needs of the school, providing materials and services in type, level, and subject commensurate with the goal of helping each student reach his or her greatest potential.

Collaborative Planning

Collaboration between teachers and  the library media specialist is strongly encouraged  to ensure that students acquire the necessary information technology competencies and information literacy skills, as well as the opportunities to weave those skills into the existing curriculum.  Collaboration takes place during grade levels common planning times.
